Welcome to LBTSBudget.com

Everyone is focused on the spending and Government waste in Washington but what you will find here is that our local Government spends, taxes and wastes just as much, if not more. Take the following facts into account and review the numbers on this site which are factual and can be found by going through our own Town's audited financial documents, linked on the left.

LBTS is a Town covering 1.5 square miles and less than 6,000 residents

  • The 2010-2011 budget spends $13,335,641 dollars
  • $4.498 million dollars is discretionary for general spending
  • $1.797 million dollars for employee salaries with over 30 employees
  • $721 thousand dollars for employee benefits
  • As of June 15th, 45% of the capital projects have not yet started
  • $445 thousand dollars spent on consultants, often recycling content

Why is your involvement so important today?

If you are amazed at the excessive numbers from 2010-2011 fiscal year, take a look at the highlights from the 2009-2010 audited financials. The taxpayers in LBTS were overcharged over 2.6million dollars in a single year!

Imagine being overcharged at the grocery store by 20%! Would you ask for a refund?

  • The 2009-2010 fiscal year charged taxpayers $15,502,557 dollars
  • Town had overcharged taxpayers $2,631,558 dollars
  • The overcharged taxes resulted in the following Fund Balances
  • $12.6 million dollars of which $3million dollars can be spent without discretion
  • $4.46 million dollars for any capital project the Town chooses
  • (Remember, at this point the majority of the dais does not want voter input)
  • Total Government assets in excess of $27.7 million dollars

Why is this important, you may ask?

The commission is working to get through the next election. They have been unable to show us that the administration can handle a project without problems. The A1A project has been filled with mistakes and issues that may yet result with a violation against our State grant.

The administration and the dais are working to move these funds so they can fund their big projects. Just look at the agenda item from June 23rd, 2010 below, the administration is already looking to reallocate the balances to fund slush projects.

Get involved during the budget process. If you think that your taxes are too high at the local government and in Washington, we need to make an impact this year. Come tell the commissioners that you want your taxes lowered, and you want to know how they plan on using the overcharged taxes from previous years.
